One of the newest additions at the Monroe Farmers Market is Spring Valley Farms, operated by good friends and neighbors, Michael Neale and Lisa Reed. Their mutual love of gardening made these two friends decide to go into business together. The duo currently is operating two large gardens with hopes of expanding into other avenues.
Their main garden is on the Neale Family Farm that has been operating since 1978.
They currently offer a wide variety of vegetables including tomatoes, beets, sweet potatoes, okra, and much more. Michael and Lisa are quick to laugh and their enjoyment of the land shows as they go do their chores. With “Tom the Turkey” and his sweet friend, Grace, trying to help, (and keeping up their side of the “turkey talk”), and the sounds of the goats and chickens in the background, it is a fun place to work.
Neale has been cultivating his love of gardening since an early age, working with his grandparents and great grandfather in the same garden that he works in today. He hopes to add a vineyard to the property in the future, and is currently testing and raising a variety of grape vines.
Lisa has a wonderful flock of chickens that she spoils, and brings her sweet and positive outlook to the gardens. As you tour the properties, her (deserved) pride and hard work shows. Both Michael’s and Lisa’s mantra comes across in the land. “Follow what nature has laid out for you, and you can’t go wrong.”
Be sure to support these amazing friends and farmers at the Monroe Farmers Market. You can’t go wrong!
